PostgreSQL 19 reaches its first release candidate

PostgreSQL 19 RC 1 came out on 15 October 2026, the last testing stage before the final release. Our apps run on PostgreSQL.

The PostgreSQL Global Development Group released PostgreSQL 19 RC 1 on 15 October 2026 . A release candidate is the final testing stage before a new major version; the date of the final release has not been announced yet.

Why we follow it

The backends behind our apps keep their data in PostgreSQL, the open source database we chose for all of them. Today we run PostgreSQL 17, with nightly backups.

How we upgrade

A new major version of a database is never rushed. We wait for the final release, test our apps against it, and only then move, with a backup taken first.
